The poem “The Soldier” has been composed by Rupert Brooke. He was born in 1887 In England. He is called a war poet. W.B. Yeats has described him as the Handsomest young man in England. he fought in world war 1st (WW1). It is a sonnet ( 14 lines)
In this poem, Brooke has described his love for his country. He says that an English soldier goes to fight for his country. In a piece of foreign land where he will be buried in case of death, that will be forever England because he was born, shaped & made aware by England. The soldier will go to an English heaven where he will re-experience all his English memories. The soldier should be remembered after his immolation for his country.
Thus, the poem shows the poet’s great love for his motherland. Such a great patriotic poet died of Septicaemia in 1915.

इस कविता में, Brooke ने देश के प्रति अपने प्रेम का वर्णन किया है। वे कहते हैं कि एक अंग्रेजी सैनिक अपने देश के लिए विदेश लड़ने जाता है। विदेशी जमीन का कोई एक टुकड़ा जहाँ उन्हें मरने के बाद दफनाया जाएगा। वह जगह हमेशा के लिए इंग्लैंड को हो जाएगा। क्योंकि इंग्लैंड ने ही उन्हें जन्म दिया, आकार दिया तथा जागरूक बनाया। वह सैनिक मरने के बाद अंग्रेजी स्वर्ग में जाएंगे और वहाँ अपने इंग्लैंड के यादो को वे पुनः अनुभव करेंगे। वह सैनिक हमेशा याद किया जाना चाहिए जो अपने देश के लिए कुर्बानी देते हों।
इस प्रकार, यह कविता कवि के मातृभुमि के प्रति महान प्रेम को दिखाता है। ऐसे महान कवि सेप्टिसेमिया नामक एक रोग से 1915 ई० में गुजर गये।
